Sarpaneva “Franken” Tribute to the accuracy testing.

Late 1940´s the idea was to create movements especially tuned to participate in the famous Swiss chronometer competitions of Geneva, Neuchatel etc… 

The double-seconds idea was actually made for two reasons:

- first to test whether a “direct” or “indirect” center-seconds hand driving mechanism would be better for accuracy reasons.

 - second use for these was when the movements were mounted to be perfectly synchronized by the famous “Regleurs”, these prototypes were to be submitted to the chronometer competitions. The movements qualified to be included in the respective observatory’s wristwatch category. 

The idea here was that the results were started to be measured optically with cameras, so some observatories had technology that was better equipped to visually trace a larger center seconds hand instead of a small one at 6. And in a typical money-saving manner, the Regleurs had to regulate only one movement for both cases. 

Was there ever any watch really available ouside of the workshop(s) of those manufactures that were doing these…? Who knows..?
